How to Engrave a Pint Glass

Learning how to engrave a pint glass can save you money while making a handsome, personalized collectible or gift. To tackle this do-it-yourself project, you need access to a computer and the appropriate software, along with a Dremel engraving tool, protective goggles and several rags.

  1. First: The design

Make the design for your engraved pint glass on a computer, using any graphics software you prefer. For text designs, choose a design from a word processor with an attractive, large-sized font. Take into account your own artistic skills when choosing the complexity of the design. Print out your design in the proper size, and then cut out the design.

  2. Second: The attachment

Insert the cut-out design into the pint glass and tape it to the inside wall of the glass. Place a dark rag or cloth into the glass to make the design stand out better. This contrast makes it easier to see the design as you trace the engraving.

  3. Third: The engraving

Place properly-fitted goggles over your eyes. Turn on your Dremel engraving tool and set it to high speed. Do not to touch the glass until the engraver is operating at full speed. Carefully trace your printed design with the engraving bit, as if it were a pen.

  4. Fourth: The clean-up

If glass dust builds up while you are working, use a damp rag to wipe it off. Make sure the towel is only damp, as water on the glass itself can cause problems. You can reuse the same design multiple times - a time-saver if you are making a matched set of pint glasses.
