How to Pour a Pint of Guinness

Considered one of the most famous beers the world, Guinness has a thicker texture and head than other beers. An extremely dark beer with a rich, creamy taste, this distinctive brew demands precision pouring, and discriminating Guinness drinkers expect nothing less. Knowing how to pour a pint of Guinness is a required skill for every bartender's repertoire.
First: Practice patience
When it comes to pouring Guinness, never be in a rush. Pouring a proper pint of Guinness is considered to be an art form and takes 119.5 seconds to complete when performed correctly.
Second: Leave chilled glasses out
Never pour Guinness into glasses stored in the freezer. Although this works well with some beers, Guinness tends to cause issues with the head. It is very critical that this beer is not in any way diluted.
Third: Go with the flow
Use a clean glass held at a forty-five degree angle to the tap. Let the beer flow into the glass, not cascade or fall.
Fourth: Keep a level head
Fill the glass almost to the top, leaving one inch remaining. This is breathing room for the head, which tends to bubble. Allow time for excess carbon dioxide to escape from the beer and for the head to settle. Top off the pint glass only after it has settled. When complete, the head just touches or looks over the rim of the glass.
Fifth: Enjoy the libations
The color contrast between the beer itself and the beige colored head makes Guinness stand out. Some bartenders follow the fanciful tradition of forming a shamrock in the head while topping off the brew. Remember - Guinness is a beer that deserves appreciation from all of the senses and not merely consumed.
